FAQ

When and where is Miles for Smiles?

Saturday, November 2nd, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Exall Park on 1355 Adair St, Dallas, TX 75204. You are welcome to come run or walk any time during the day at this safe, family-friendly location!

How does Miles for Smiles work?

Runners of all ages are invited to visit Exall Park at any time throughout the day, where they will have the opportunity to run or walk the number of miles they feel capable, all to the tunes of a live DJ! After the event, local sponsors and dentists generously donate to the cause based on the cumulative number of miles that participants ran.

Student dentists at Texas A&M College of Dentistry will also provide free dental and oral cancer screenings for participants as well as oral health education for youngsters.

Who may participate?

In 2010, we opened up Miles for Smiles to the Plano, Richardson, Frisco and Dallas communities in hopes of bringing together the Greater Dallas population for a day of oral health advocacy and fun. We invite sports teams, dental offices, avid runners, and friends and family to come out and enjoy a day with students and friends.

How do I participate?

It’s simple! On the day of the event, visit Exall Park at 1355 Adair St, Dallas, TX, 75204 anytime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and sign up at one of the registration booths. After you receive a number badge, you are set to run!

Who benefits from the funds raised?

Every penny of sponsors’ contributions will go towards the Texas A&M College of Dentistry Social Services Dental Care Fund. This fund, maintained by the director of social services of the Department of Public Health Sciences, is used to provide disadvantaged citizens of the Greater Dallas community with interest-free loans to pay for dental care they otherwise would not be able to afford.

Potential recipients of financial assistance are carefully interviewed after providing proof of income and then selected based on medical need and ability to repay the loan.

In the 30 years the Dental Care Fund has been in place, there has been a consistently high rate of full repayment, which has enabled the fund to continue serving more citizens in need, year after year.

Will there be there prizes?

All participants will receive free toothbrushes and toothpaste, and top runners will be awarded goodies ranging from free whitening kits to iPods, with different prizes for each age range.
